Our ophthalmologists are certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and are members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the Johnson/Wyandotte Counties Medical Society.

K. Dwight Hendricks, M.D.

Dr. Hendricks received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 1979. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas in 1983 and has been in private practice in Kansas City since then. He is on staff at Providence Medical Center and Truman Medical Center. He performs Lasik eye surgery at Doctors Laser Sight Center in Johnson County.

Dr. Hendricks has been involved with refractive surgery since 1992 starting with radial keratotomy. When the excimer laser was introduced in 1995, he then started performing PRK procedures. In 1998 he converted to LASIK, which in his opinion is the best refractive procedure to date that gives the safest, fastest, and most pain free visual recovery of all available procedures. Dr. Hendricks' LASIK outcomes have been outstanding and he has never had a vision threatening complication. Dr. Hendricks also has an active general ophthalmic practice and performs cataract surgery and corneal transplantations.

Sujote David, M.D.

Dr. David received his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed his ophthalmology residency in 1995 at Stanford University. He then completed sub-specialty training in glaucoma and cataract surgery in 1996 at the University of Utah. Dr. David practiced in Denver, Colorado for two years prior to joining Dr. Hendricks at Medical Surgical Eye Care, P.A. in 1999. He is also on the medical staff at Providence Medical Center. Although he has an active general ophthalmic practice, the emphasis of his practice is on the treatment of glaucoma and cataract surgery.

Brian Stephens, O.D.

Dr. Stephens, an optometrist, received his bachelor degree at Missouri Western State College, St. Joseph. He attended optometry school at the University of Missouri at St. Louis and performed a residency in ocular disease at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He joined Dr. Hendricks at Medical Surgical Eye Care, P.A. in 1994. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry and the Kansas Optometric Association. Dr. Stephens has a busy optometric practice at Medical Surgical Eye Care, P.A. and his emphasis is on family eye care and contact lens fitting.
